Ingredients and A Discussion About Fragrance
All right, you know the drill here at the Nue Trend: ingredients are key! As for this 100% Pure Matcha Oat Milk Nourishing Mask, let’s break it down.
First, I have to say, as a consumer and skincare lover, I am overjoyed that water is nowhere on this list. Since masks are supposed to be a more concentrated skincare product, it can be really frustrating to see the main ingredients cheaply diluted by water. So this is a plus one for 100% Pure in my book. I was delighted to discover that for this product that has “matcha” in its name, the very first ingredient is Camellia Sinensis, or green tea, leaf extract—but more on this later.
It is important to note that the bulk of the ingredients in this list are botanical extracts used as fragrances. While we here at the Nue Trend like to stick with ingredients that only help our skin, face masks are one place where we have some wiggle room. We love that 100% Pure has chosen to use natural fragrance options instead of some vague ingredient listed simply as “parfum” or something similar. We like to know exactly what is going on our faces!
That being said, I, for one, am someone who avoids even natural fragrance in the majority of my skincare. Majority being the operative word here. Because even natural fragrance can be sensitizing to my sensitive skin, it is important to me that, especially in my moisturizers, there is no added fragrance. However, masks are one exception to this rule! Masks are fun and, more importantly, are typically washed or wiped off after some time. Because of this, I can feel more comfortable and confident adding some yummy smelling fragrances into my routine. Although, as mentioned above, I want to know exactly what fragrance is being included. Bring on those botanicals, but keep weird synthetic chemicals far away from me! As always though, be sure to patch test with any new product, especially one with potentially irritating ingredients!
So, we’ve covered the matcha component of this Matcha Oat Milk Mask, but what about the oat milk? In this mask, the benefits of oats are brought to us by avena sativa, or oat, kernel flour. I am glad to report that this namesake ingredient is the third ingredient in the list! There’s nothing like a company who actually uses high quantities of the ingredients they advertise.
If matcha is the first ingredient and oat is the third, what is the second? Coconut extract! I am so glad that 100% Pure has chosen not to use any unnecessary fillers or additives in their product. Oh, and did I mention that most of the ingredients here are organic? Big win in our book!
What Benefits Can Matcha Provide?
Matcha is a plant-powered powerhouse ready to level-up our skin!
First and foremost, matcha contains an antioxidant called epigallocatechin-3-gallate. This antioxidant allows for matcha to have antibacterial properties. What’s one main acne causing culprit? That’s right, bacteria. The bacteria fighting properties in matcha can help promote a clearer complexion.
The good news is, that’s not all! While matcha fights acne causing bacteria, its vitamin K content can aid in reducing inflammation, puffiness, and even dark circles! This soothing green powder just never stops impressing us.
Oat Milk Skin Benefits
According to 100% Pure’s website, the oat milk component of their mask is powered by colloidal oatmeal. What’s colloidal oatmeal? Stick with me here because we take an unexpected turn, but I promise it all makes sense in the end.
Colloidal oatmeal isn’t your everyday oatmeal we eat for breakfast. Nope… think back to when chicken pox was a real issue. What was a go to treatment regimen? That’s right—an oatmeal bath! I grew up right on the cusp of when chicken pox immunization was readily available, so I always heard about this seemingly unusual solution, but never had to experience it myself. I remember hearing about it and knowing it was a common thing people did to soothe chicken pox, but my young brain thought it was silly and didn’t actually make much sense. Now I understand why it does!
Colloidal oatmeal was used for chicken pox due to its ability to reduce and soothe the inflamed and irritated skin. Why does this matter for everyday skincare? Well, I know that I, for one, have definitely experienced inflamed and irritated skin—especially caused by acne—more times than I care to recall. If colloidal oatmeal can soothe something like chicken pox, I definitely feel good about reaching for it to help me out when my skin is irritated and inflamed.
Colloidal oatmeal is also used for people with eczema prone skin, or just dry skin in general. So not only is colloidal oatmeal a fantastic soothing ingredient, it can help dry skin by preventing water loss while hydrating and moisturizing the skin. As someone with dry skin, this is a super valuable and exciting ingredient for me!
Thankfully, this isn’t the only way 100% Pure sought out to ensure there are hydrating ingredients…
Say Hello to Hyaluronic Acid
Everyone’s favorite humectant makes an appearance in this already power-packed mask! I don’t know about everyone else, but I feel like hyaluronic acid has been a household name in the skincare world over the last few years. There’s good reason for this!
Hyaluronic acid falls into a group of substances called humectants. Humectants are awesome because they draw moisture from the environment into our skin. Dehydrated versus dry skin is an important distinction that, thankfully, has been gaining a lot more traction. Someone with oily skin can still have dehydrated skin! Humectants are a way to combat this. Humectants are a super important player in making sure our skin looks plump and happy. As someone with dry skin, a good hyaluronic acid serum always comes before my moisturizer. Remember, though, it’s always important to layer a moisturizer, or occlusive, over a humectant. This ensures the moisture will stay locked in!
We love that 100% Pure chose to include this hydrating ingredient in this mask. While matcha and oat milk soothe, hyaluronic acid covers the heavy lifting hydration!
Honorable Mention: Coconut
Circling back to ingredient #2 in this mask, we need to talk about the added coconut extract! As I mentioned from the very beginning, I love that 100% Pure didn’t dilute the mask with unnecessary ingredients. Even though we love water, we don’t exactly love to see it at the top of an ingredient list. In a mask especially, this typically means that a company is watering down the formula in order to skimp on the big-ticket ingredients. So, I am glad to see something like coconut extract coming in at #2!
Coconut has high levels of vitamin C and E. These two vitamins are some of our favorites for our skin! Vitamin E is super healing, which makes me happy to see it in skincare whenever I do. Vitamin C helps promote collagen production, which can have all kinds of happy side effects, like plumping and smoothing skin—AKA, fewer fine lines! Vitamin C is an important antioxidant that also protects our skin from damaging free radicals.
Coconut is an ingredient that people can have skin sensitivities to, so always keep that in mind! Otherwise, we’re obsessed!
We love finding companies and products we can stand behind. Thank you 100% Pure for your commitment to natural, organic, and PURE ingredients and products.
This mask was carefully curated to tackle a variety of skin concerns from every angle. We especially love how carefully chosen ingredients can have varying benefits, like battling inflammation and being hydrating simultaneously.
As always, remember that ingredients are always the name of the game, and never settle for less than what your precious skin deserves!
